FAITH
7
SPACECRAFT
Model is in 1/14th scale and comes with Atlas
launch vehicle in 1/96th scale.
Each Mercury capsule was different and this model captures
the details specific to this historic spacecraft. This model is shipped as a CD-ROM.
Available on the Project Mercury CD ROM only
Who
was the best pilot I ever saw? Astronaut Gordo Cooper made a record 22
orbits in Faith 7. Near the end of the flight, possible condensation
caused a short circuit that cut power to all attitude and stabilization
instruments. Cooper had to fly the capsule manually through the re-entry
process. Keeping his pitch with his window reticle, he guided the
spacecraft to a precision landing, 4 miles ahead of the aircraft carrier
Kearsarge. The most
accurate Mercury landing.
Faith 7 is easily the most unique of the Mercury
spacecraft with mission specific experiments attached to the retropak,
experimental paint swatches on the body and the Faith 7 logo art.
The
Faith 7 Mercury capsule is currently on display at the Johnson Space
Center (NASA) in Houston, Texas.
